“Hosting major events is just the beginning,” said Mohan. “Our mission is to create a sustainable boxing ecosystem in the Middle East, where local fighters have the opportunity to develop, compete, and ultimately shine on the global stage.”

MEPB’s influence has grown dramatically in recent years, marked by its role in commissioning some of the largest boxing events in history. Notably, the highly anticipated Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury heavyweight championship bout, held in Riyadh, marked a watershed moment for the region. “We’re extremely proud to have been a part of such a historic event,” said Mohan. “It’s the biggest fight of the century, and it highlights our capacity to deliver on the world’s most prestigious stage.”

MEPB’s rapid rise isn’t limited to high-profile fights. The commission has now sanctioned more than 100 events, showcasing its commitment to establishing an independent and credible boxing organization in the Middle East. “Saudi Arabia has done an incredible job hosting super fights, but it’s just as important to invest in grassroots programs that develop young talent,” said Mohan. “Our ultimate goal is to have Arab fighters headline events in their home countries and take the sport to new heights.”

In addition to training fighters, MEPB is focused on expanding the infrastructure necessary to support the sport’s growth. This includes training ring officials, promoting safety protocols, and educating the public about the sport. “We’re building the full spectrum of boxing support,” said Mohan. “From referees and judges to coaches and promoters, we’re investing in all the key components needed to ensure the region’s long-term success in boxing.”

MEPB’s long-term plan is built on collaboration with local governments and stakeholders, particularly through initiatives like Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which emphasizes sports as a tool for national development. “Government support has been crucial to our success,” Mohan remarked. “Vision 2030 has allowed us to leverage boxing as a way to inspire youth, promote fitness, and ultimately create a thriving boxing community in the Middle East.”

The future of boxing in the Middle East is undoubtedly bright. Prominent Arab fighters such as Moussa Gholam, Bader Al-Dherat, Sultan Al Nuaimi, and Fahad Al Bloushi are already making waves on the international stage, closing in on top global rankings. Their success represents the tangible progress being made by MEPB and further reinforces the commission’s goal of seeing a Middle Eastern fighter crowned as a world champion.

“The groundwork has been laid,” said Mohan. “We are on the verge of a breakthrough that will see Arab fighters take their place among the best in the world. It’s only a matter of time before we see a major title held by an Arab champion.”
