Spotify Brings First Standalone R&B Festival To Dallas

Spotify and Live Nation announced Monday that Dallas will host the streaming giant’s first-ever standalone R&B concert event, a one-day festival called RNB X Live set for November 1 at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory.

The inaugural festival grew out of RNB X, Spotify’s dedicated R&B editorial playlist, and represents the most ambitious live extension of that brand to date. Organizers said the event is designed to bring together veteran performers and newer artists to showcase the range of contemporary R&B in a single setting, rather than splitting the genre into narrower stylistic categories.

The announced lineup pairs generational headliners with a slate of rising acts. Erykah Badu, a Dallas native, is scheduled to perform following the release of her first new project in more than a decade. H.E.R. will also headline, marking one of her rare returns to a stage since stepping back from touring on her own. Supporting performers include kwn, Destin Conrad and Jai’len Josey, artists Spotify has previously highlighted through its Artists to Watch and Fresh Finds discovery programs. Fellow Dallas native rjtheweirdo, also a Fresh Finds artist, will open the show.

According to the announcement, select performances from the festival will be recorded and later released exclusively through Spotify Live, giving listeners outside Dallas a chance to experience portions of the event after the fact. Premium subscribers identified as top fans will get early access to tickets starting September 8 at noon Central time, with general on-sale tickets following on September 11 at the same hour.

The Dallas festival builds on a series of smaller RNB X live events Spotify has staged with Live Nation Urban over the past year, including RNB X After Hours in Washington, D.C., and RNB X Live: The UK Sound shows in New York and San Francisco. Company executives described the new festival as a natural expansion of that partnership, aimed at giving R&B artists dedicated space to connect with fans in person rather than only through streaming playlists.

The move fits into a broader pattern among major streaming platforms, which have increasingly moved beyond algorithmic playlists to sponsor or co-produce live events tied to specific genres and editorial brands. For streaming services, branded concerts and festivals offer a way to deepen listener loyalty, generate promotional content, and strengthen ties with artists and their labels, while giving genre-specific playlists a physical, ticketed presence that can reinforce brand recognition beyond the app.

R&B in particular has seen renewed commercial momentum in recent years, with veteran acts returning to prominence alongside a wave of younger artists gaining traction through streaming discovery tools. Festivals centered on the genre remain less common than pop, hip-hop or country-focused events, making a large-scale, single-genre R&B festival in a major Southern market notable for both the music industry and live entertainment promoters watching genre-specific programming trends.

Dallas was selected in part because of its sizable R&B fan base and its connection to several performers on the bill, organizers noted, framing the choice as an effort to root the festival in a market with deep ties to the genre’s history and current audience.

Additional details about the festival, including presale terms and the full announcement, were first published by Spotify, as reported on the company’s newsroom website.
