Outerlight Entertainment, formerly First Look Entertainment, has acquired independent studio Bleecker Street Media. Outerlight announced the deal in a press release on Thursday, 15 October 2026, and financial terms were not disclosed.

Bleecker Street will keep operating on its own. Sister label Topic Studios will sit under the same parent company, and both will continue to run independently. Kent Sanderson remains chief executive of Bleecker Street, and Tyler DiNapoli stays as president and chief marketing officer.

What Bleecker Street Keeps and What the Deal Adds

Bleecker Street keeps control of its slate, acquisitions, distribution and marketing. According to TheWrap, it also retains filmmaker relationships and daily operations, and its existing commitments continue without disruption. The company remains an active buyer and distributor.

Sanderson said the company is growing and intends to keep scaling while staying true to what makes it distinctive. TheWrap reported that he praised Outerlight for sharing its belief in theatrical moviegoing. In World Screen’s coverage of the Crosswalk launch, Sanderson said he is proud of what Bleecker has built over its 11 years in business.

What Outerlight adds is capital. According to TheWrap, the press release describes the deal as providing long-term capital and additional resources to accelerate Bleecker’s existing growth strategy. The money is meant to fund a larger investment in the core film business and new growth initiatives, including Crosswalk. TheWrap reports that Bleecker’s big fall slate includes Alex Gibney’s four-hour documentary MUSK and the Helen Mirren and Alden Ehrenreich thriller A Talent for Murder.

Deal terms
Outerlight did not disclose the financial terms of its acquisition of Bleecker Street Media, which it announced on 15 October 2026.

Crosswalk and the Event-Cinema Model

Crosswalk is a new division of Bleecker Street that brings live events to cinemas through theatrical releases and partner-led distribution. Its partnership arm lets trusted output partners use Bleecker’s home entertainment infrastructure and some of its theatrical titles. World Screen reported the launch on 31 October 2025 and said Crosswalk plans to release five to six titles a year, alongside Bleecker’s regular theatrical slate. Wikipedia dates the launch to October 2025 and cites a Variety report dated 30 October 2025.

The first titles include Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale, produced by Vertigo Live, and Slanted, the directorial debut of Amy Wang, which won at SXSW. Wikipedia says the division’s early title, the K-pop concert film Stray Kids: The dominATE Experience, debuted at number one at the global box office. At launch, Sanderson called Crosswalk a key part of the company’s growth plan, according to World Screen.

Bleecker Street’s Origins and Outerlight’s Other Holdings

Bleecker Street was formed in August 2014 by Andrew Karpen, the former co-CEO of Focus Features, and launched with backing from Manoj Bhargava. Wikipedia says the name refers to 65 Bleecker Street, the address of Focus Features. Its first film deal was for North American rights to Pawn Sacrifice at the Toronto International Film Festival that September.

TheWrap reports that Outerlight also owns Puzzle Pictures and has investments in MHz Choice and Passionflix. Wikipedia lists Outerlight Entertainment as Bleecker Street’s parent. With Topic Studios also under the same parent, the group’s film labels now include both Bleecker Street and Topic.

TheWrap names Sandy Climan of Entertainment Media Ventures and Matthew Wilkens of 44 Greenwich as advisers to Bleecker Street Media. It says Pryor Cashman represented Outerlight.

Bleecker Street keeps control of its slate, acquisitions, distribution and marketing.

What Producers and Founders Can Take From It

The announcement discloses no price. For independent producers, one detail stands out: Bleecker keeps control of acquisitions, distribution and marketing after the sale, so the company continues to buy and release films under its own leadership.

For entertainment founders seeking backers, the stated use of new money is specific: a larger investment in the existing film business and new growth initiatives, including Crosswalk. Crosswalk’s target of five to six titles a year gives a concrete output plan for one format, live events brought into cinemas.

Readers should watch for the financial terms, which have not been disclosed, and for any announcement on the Topic Studios slate or leadership.
